How to Play Disc Golf

Disc golf, or Frisbee golf, is a game played worldwide. It has been gaining popularity since the 60s, and there are more than 8,000 courses in the US alone.

And as more golfers, outdoor enthusiasts, and fans of unconventional sports take up the sport, you may have been wondering how to play disc golf.

Not quite sure where to start? We’ve got a guide for you! Below, you’ll find out the basics of the game and how you can start playing today.

What Is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is a sport played using discs, or frisbees, and a set of rules similar to golf. The game is played on a course, with each hole having a set distance and par or several strokes needed to complete the hole.

Players throw their discs from a tee area where their previous throw landed until they reach the hole. The player with the fewest strokes at the end of the course wins.

Disc golf can be played by people of all ages and skill levels. It is a great way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while getting some exercise.

It can be played alone or with friends, making it an excellent activity for solo and group outings. And, best of all, it’s affordable – you need a few discs, and you’re good to go!

Disc Golf Rules

The game’s object is to complete each hole in the fewest throws.

Disc golf is a lot like regular golf, but instead of using a golf ball and clubs, you use a Frisbee and aim for a basket. The game is played with two or more players, and each player starts with their Frisbee at the tee.

The player throws the disc from a teeing area toward the basket. The player then walks to where the disc landed and throws again.

This continues until the player has thrown the disc into the basket. A successful throw into the basket is worth 1 point. If the player throws the disc into the basket in 3 throws or less, it is called a birdie. If the player throws the disc into the basket in 4 throws, it is called a par.

The player with the fewest number of strokes at the end of the round wins

Disc Golf Equipment

Disc golf is played using a Frisbee or flying disc and a disc golf basket.

First, you will need to purchase a disc. There are many different discs available, especially for beginners.

Discs for beginners are usually not too heavy and have a good amount of glide. Once you have your disc, familiarize yourself with the game rules.

When you are ready to play, find a course near you. Courses usually have 9 to 18 holes. Most of them are free to play, but some may charge a small fee.

Tee off from the first hole and try to land your disc in the basket in as few throws as possible. Keep track of your score and see if you can beat your friends or other players on the course.
